Julie Smallman, Ph.D.

Having worked with Dr. Daisy for over 20 years, Dr. Julie enjoys conducting evaluations that are client-centered and positive with an emphasis on personal understanding. Over time, she has seen first-hand how such evaluations can be so valuable in helping students of all ages feel more empowered in personal endeavors. Throughout her career, Dr. Julie has maintained an interest in the development of cognitive skills through young adulthood and the assessment of individuals with medical challenges. She enjoys working with students with ADHD, developmental, medical conditions (e.g., genetic conditions, concussion), and learning differences (e.g., dyslexia). She is also mom to three wonderful teenagers,loves travel, music, reading, and history, and is contemplating learning to play the guitar.

Dr. Julie obtained her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology in 2003 from American University. During her training, she worked in the Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology Laboratory at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) from 1995 to 1997, during which she received an Intramural Training Award. She also completed therapy and assessment externships at Children’s National Medical Center and Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital from 1997 to 2000, as well as a post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at the Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center in 2004.
